The APEC Education Foundation (AEF), a non-profit, grant-making organization, was established in 1995 as an expansion of the Leaders' Education Initiative of the first APEC Economic Leaders' Meeting in Blake Island, the United States.

Acknowledging the emerging trend of knowledge-based society, the APEC Education Foundation (AEF) is actively carrying out its mission to support APEC in its endeavors toward shared prosperity and fostering an Asia-Pacific community through advancing education and human resources development cooperation.

The APEC Education Foundation has carried out various grant-making activities in conformity to its mission and goals, bringing the APEC economies closer with the promotion of information and communication technologies (ICT) and cooperative exchanges in the field of education and human resources development.

In course of the Foundation’s activities to resolve the pivotal issue of the “digital divide” by means of ICT education, the Foundation has given renewed attention to the overall ICT environment. The Foundation has come to understand the necessity for greater focus and expansion of its projects to remedy the adverse effects arising from rapid changes in the dissemination of ICT.
